ABOUT

The Susan Skiff is an 11’ 3” flat bottom boats, originally designed by Rob Steward in 1952. It is built upside down on a construction jig (strongback) until the hull is complete. The boat is then detached from the jig, flipped over and has its interior components installed. The side planking is built lapstrake style (the planks overlap and are fastened together with copper rivets), while the bottom planking is build carvel style (the planks are laid edge to edge).
